September 1-15: Prostate cancer screenings at Northside Hospital in Gwinnett and Sandy Springs

Northside offers two community-based prostate cancer screenings, free of charge, to measure men’s risk of developing the disease.

The screenings will take place:

Thursday, Sept. 1 from 5:30 p.m. to 8 p.m. at Northside Hospital Cancer Support Center – Gwinnett, 631 Professional Drive, Suite 210, Lawrenceville, GA 30046.

Thursday, Sept. 15 from 5:30 p.m. to 8 p.m. at Northside Cancer Institute Radiation Oncology – Atlanta Hospital, 1000 Johnson Ferry Road NE, Atlanta, GA 30342.

Prostate-specific antigen (PSA) blood tests will be available for men between the ages of 45 and 75, who have never had prostate cancer or a PSA blood test in the past 12 months. Interpreters will be available free of charge. COVID-19 safety measures will be enforced in accordance with CDC guidelines.

September 8: Four-Week Cancer Transitions Workshop (virtual)

Cancer Support Community Atlanta is hosting this free four-week workshop, designed to help cancer survivors transition from active treatment to post-treatment care.

  • September 8: (session 1) Regain well-being: take control of your survival
  • September 15: (session 2) Emotional health
  • September 22: (session 3) Eat well and stay active
  • September 29: (session 4) Medical care beyond cancer

Sessions take place virtually from 10:30 a.m. to noon. Register in advance with Emily Brown at [email protected]

September 13: Built to Quit smoking and smoking cessation course

From September 13the Northside Hospital Cancer Institute will host a six weeks Built to Quit course, featuring the American Lung Association’s Freedom From Smoking® program, which helps participants learn the dangers of smoking and tobacco product use, the benefits of quitting, and strategies and skills to cope with urges.

The class is led by an American Lung Association certified facilitator and includes behavioral therapists, nutritionists and respiratory therapists from Northside Hospital who will provide support and guidance. Participants receive nicotine replacement therapy (if qualified) and a paper study program with a meditation CD. Classes are mainly conducted in groups, with interaction that allows participants to learn from the experiences of others.

Classes are generally available at Northside Hospital campuses in Atlanta, Canton, Cumming, and Lawrenceville. However, in an effort to maintain the health and safety of attendees and facilitators during the COVID-19 pandemic, online classes will continue while we monitor Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) recommendations for gatherings. indoors.

Wellness Wednesdays (webinars)

Join experts at Northside Hospital for a weekly “virtual” presentation of timely health information.

Presentations take place on Zoom or GoToWebinar. There is no cost to participate. All presentations start at noon and last approximately one hour.
