More P5-M contraband cigarettes seized in Zamboanga town, 10 people arrested
CITY OF ZAMBOANGA, Zamboanga del Sur — Eight crew members and two boat owners have been arrested for attempting to ship contraband cigarettes worth an estimated 5.67 million pesos into the city.
Colonel Rexmel Reyes, police director for the city of Zamboanga, said the cargo was intercepted around noon on Wednesday, September 29, near Tumalutap Island.
Reyes said the contraband cigarettes were loaded onto two ships, bearing the marks MPB November Rain and MV Adzmie Boy.
Seizure of 162 cases of various brands of cigarettes which were handed over to the Customs Office.
Adzmin Pasan Sawadjaan, owner of MV Adzmie Boy, and Bon Bon Samat, owner and captain of MPB November Rain, are both from Isabela City, Basilan.
The 8 crew members were identified as Henry Indal Adjilani (boat captain), 59; Alih Usman Pusung, 24; Rasid Ansaldo Asmara, 18; Sajel Sabtal Askalani, 26 years old; Al Sarani Hailil, 28; Mijar Sayari Middun, 23; Middun Baharun Hasim, 64; and Lacson Barahluddin Jawharan, 33.
Authorities are still trying to identify and trace the owners and recipients of the contraband goods.
