But does it really work? Dietitian Beth Czerwony, MS, RD, CSOWM, LD explains what fire cider is and whether it is worth trying.
What is fire cider?
Traditionally, herbal tonics have been medicinal drinks meant to invigorate you and help you recover or stay healthy. Throughout history, various cultures have turned to tonics to promote general well-being.
But what is fire cider in particular? This spicy swill blends all-natural ingredients said to have immune properties. The idea is that when these healthy ingredients come together, they create a kind of super drink – a mega healthy drink that can keep you from getting sick.
But there is a catch: there is no proof that it works.
“There is no evidence that fire cider is beneficial. Eating fads like this always come back overhauled and tweaked to make them more sensational, ”Czerwony says,“ but the bottom line is they just don’t do anything for you. “
